Meekness

Webster's 1828 Dictionary: Meek

MEEK, adjective [Latin mucus; Eng. mucilage; Heb. to melt.]

1. Mild of temper; soft; gentle; not easily provoked or irritated; yielding; given to forbearance under injuries.

2. Appropriately, humble, in an evangelical sense; submissive to the divine will [not man's will]; not proud, self-sufficient or refractory; not peevish and apt to complain of divine dispensations.

Neal Frisby, Fruits of the Spirt Series, 1977

The Elect are humbly triumphant (meek) knowing that their battles have already been won by the Lord God, Jesus Christ.  The Sons of God are submissive to God's divine will, not man's will.

The Lord said not to boast that we have the gifts of the Holy Spirit and have power and authority over devils, rather to rejoice and be grateful that He has saved us and gave us eternal life (written our names in heaven) because all have sinned.

Luke 10:20

Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven [because none is good, save one, the Lord Jesus Christ]

Revelation 4:10-11

The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, 11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Ephesians 5:17
Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

A sad misconception is that the meek are weak.  A Study of scripture certainly proves otherwise.  By respecting and trusting and yielding to the Lord God, Moses did great exploits!  So shall the Elect of God.

But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

Ephesians 4:1-3

I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
